X3D Robot Sequence

Thu Jul 19 2022

For the launch of X3D Studio, a Singapore-based virtual production and ICVFX studio, we crafted an animation sequence for "Now Is Not The Time" - an immersive art installation by Daniel Arsham commemorating the 100th anniversary of Singapore's Founding Father, Lee Kwan Yew.

Leveraging "virtual production" powered by Unreal Engine, a real-time environment creation tool used in groundbreaking shows like The Mandalorian, X3D Studio aimed to showcase their ability to create stunning visuals for film-making.

We were tasked with creating a video that not only introduced X3D Studio, but also highlighted their artful approach at technology. I crafted the story of a mid-century female robot awakening from a slumber, reminiscent of Maria from the classic sci-fi film Metropolis and Aphrodite from Birth of Venus (Botticelli).

The design of the robot embodies both feminine and masculine silhouette, like a metaphor for  the fusion between Art & Tech. As she steps forward in a Mugler-esque walk, the barren landscape surrounding her undergoes a metamorphosis. It flourishes into an otherworldly environment, symbolizing the transformative power of creativity, breathing life into the world.
