Virtual Light Countdown
Creative Concept Proposal

This proposal outlines a captivating concept for "Virtual Light Countdown 2022," a unique blend of virtual event, interactive TikTok livestream, and an offline celebration.

Building on the success of the original platform launched in 2018, a one-of-a-kind New Year's Eve event on Nguyen Hue Street that garnered nationwide broadcasts and quickly became a highly anticipated annual tradition, Virtual Light Countdown 2022 leverages cutting-edge technology to create an unparalleled experience.

The creative director comes up with a show storyline surrounding a virtual music-loving avatar named Aura travels through time (or "verse-jumps") to various fantastical landscapes. At each stop, Aura joins a virtual audience for a concert tailored to that surreal location.

As an Art Director, I was responsible for translating the creative director's vision for Aura's journey into a cohesive artistic style.

This involved:
  • Developing the overall art direction: I established the visual identity of the project, including themes, key visuals, a color palette, and the design of proposal, show packaging and virtual stages.
  • Collaborating with the artistic team: I worked closely with 2D, 3D, and motion graphics artists to ensure all visual elements - from supporting graphics to the show logotype and packaging - aligned with the chosen art direction.
  • Drawing inspiration from keywords: Synthwave, retro-futurism, and surrealism served as key aesthetics to guide the artistic direction.

World Building & Stage Design - Alien Fauna
My task was diving headfirst into world-building for "Alien Fauna." Imagine holographic trees shimmering alongside giant flowers, all nestled amongst exotic plants and chrome creatures. This wasn't your average world – it was a fantastical blend of Vietnamese landscapes, like the awe-inspiring Son Doong Cave and the majestic Ban Gioc Waterfall, colliding with the otherworldly home of Bjork. To bring this vision to life, I worked closely with 3D artists. We meticulously planned and crafted every element, ensuring they'd seamlessly integrate into the final stage design.

World Building & Stage Design - Underwater
I spearheaded the world-building for "Ocean Colony," a futuristic city where submerged coastal landscapes rise again. Imagine high-tech infrastructure – skyscrapers, roads, and vehicles – intertwined with a vibrant coral reef, reminiscent of the world in Monster Hunter. Atop a giant whale, a colossal dome houses aquaponic farms and vertical gardens, creating a stage and audience space. This environment blends ultra-modernity with a thriving underwater ecosystem, all under the symbolism of water: power, destruction, and rebirth. To bring this vision to life, I collaborated with 3D artists, meticulously planning and crafting each element for seamless integration into the final stage design.
